September Joys
By Mary Jean Powers

Hey Friends!
Coloradans are enjoying a beautiful, warm autumn. I’m not a fan of cold weather or short days, so the longer we can extend this, the happier I am! 😊
Well, as unpredictable as the summer was, September rolled around, and life became full with the familiar; October promises more of the same. My son, Jon, continues to heal and become stronger (so thankful!) and he’s now more mobile, so I have returned to a routine schedule and life of ministry.
Debriefing has again become a rhythm (two this month!), and I’m still astonished at how the Holy Spirit leads, the Father loves, and Jesus heals every single time! This month, I also had the privilege of being debriefed! As I sat on the receiving end, my eyes were opened in a new way to the power of truly being heard, the freedom to tell my story from beginning to end, and the trusted wisdom that follows when the debriefer is in step with the Spirit. I’m more convinced than ever that the ministry of debriefing is a vital part of healthy Church leadership, and for now, it’s a perfect fit for me.
On the home front, I was elated to discover another perk of living at this location: the Colorado Air Show! The tiny airport about four miles from my place hosted it, complete with the Thunderbirds! They practiced for a couple of hours on Friday and then displayed spectacular skill during two 45-minute shows on Saturday and Sunday. Having been raised on a U.S. Air Force base, it felt to me like returning “home” in many ways! It was so, so fun to share the experience with some of my neighbors and friends who were visiting!
Walk Thru the Bible continues to be the most fun class I teach, and last Saturday was no exception! About 25 of us worked chronologically through the major people, places and events of the Old Testament, and laughed a ton in the process! There will be a repeat “performance” this Saturday, October 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling, CO. If you know someone in Eastern Colorado who may be interested, please point them to the Walk Thru the Bible page so they can register.
Only two more weeks to go, and my 2025 weekly jaunt to Wyoming will be a thing of the past. The plan is to finish the book of Acts and tie the Epistles to the timeline, and then we will have finished an entire Bible overview, including the 400 years between Testaments. I’ve so enjoyed the beautiful drives, the open sky, the visitors and the regulars who form this community. I’ll definitely miss them!
This year, I’m focusing on the spiritual discipline of prayer. Along with the disciples I ask, “Lord, teach us to pray.” I encourage you to take a few extra minutes today and sit with Jesus. Ask Him what’s on His heart … and then talk with Him about it. He really enjoys time with you.
Take good care, friends, Mary Jean :)
