Turning a Corner
By Mary Jean Powers

Dear Friends,
Have you ever felt like you were turning a corner, but didn’t know exactly what you’d find around the bend? Me, too! That’s a fair description of what it feels like to have just turned 70 — so strange, but I’m hopeful. I’m rounding a corner, and although there are many similarities to the last season, there’s not clear definition for the next one … yet. I’ve learned that God doesn’t change His mind about His original design for our lives, regardless of the paths we choose; He made us intentionally, purposefully. For me, coming alongside ministry leaders and teaching the Bible has had many expressions through the decades … and that part won’t change. But I am anticipating new expressions of ministry, and I have a hunch that He will surprise me once more. That said, “Happy birthday to me!” 😊
This month, my ministry expressions included …
- reconnection with the young adult group I used to disciple. So Much Fun! They’re all growing up and growing inwardly. I’m so proud of them!
- finishing the Old Testament overview in Carpenter, Wyoming and the 400 years between the Testaments. This week we covered highlights of the Gospel authors and will continue our overview of the New Testament through September.
- preparation of several Bible teaching videos which will soon be available on the website.
- counseling appointments, sabbatical coaching, and Bible study discipleship.
- debriefing a young man who recently returned from a 5-week mission trip to Estonia.
- updating my bio and resume for … well, you’re going to have to wait to hear about that. Some very exciting stuff that I can’t quite define is right around the corner!
- entering the final stages of editing a new book on Prayer! I’m so looking forward to sharing it with you!

Financial Partnership
Part of the joy of being in full time ministry is giving my friends and family a practical way to contribute to strengthening the Kingdom of God. I love teaching the Bible, disciple-making, and walking with ministry leaders and I count it a huge privilege to live “by faith”. Plus, it’s fun to bring you along with me! I rely solely on relationship-based support and couldn’t do this without you. I’m so very grateful for your investments into Get the Word Out. If you would like to partner with me financially, you can give online as well as through the other options below. Thank You!
Let’s make this our prayer today:
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me save that Thou art. Thou my best thought by day or by night; Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord. Thou my great Father, and I Thy dear child; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
— St. Dallán Forgaill, a 6th-century Irish poet
Enjoy the photos I’ve taken on evening walks around the lake, Mary Jean :)
